The best time to start is now.

the best time to start is now

If I could go back 5 years ago and tell myself anything. It would be to start that business I had been thinking about and trying to do for so many years. There never is a perfect time to start a business but the best time is now.

I had a “good” job; I was good at it, the pay was decent, the hours were pretty good, and the benefits were okay.

The only problem is that I wasn’t really going anywhere. I reached the top and hit a ceiling. There just wasn’t anywhere else to go.

I stayed there for so long because it offered me the flexibility that was essential to my family as my husband and I grew our family.

It has also offered tremendous stability over the years.

However, even as my cost of living has increased, my pay has stayed stagnant. Not through any fault of my own or even of the business.

I was tapped out and trapped against that ceiling with a single point of failure. If something happened to this job, how would I provide the income my family needed while still being home to take care of my children?

The only way out was to carve my own path. I had to start the business I had been dreaming of for so long.

I knew that eventually, my job would end. The owners were headed to retirement and I knew I wouldn’t stay with new owners even if the business sold.

3 years ago, I decided to dip my toe into entrepreneurship. I learned so much during the first two years. I learned that a good marketing plan and execution are the lifeblood of any business.

It doesn’t matter what you’re selling, without good marketing, your business will fail.

Another thing is that you have to have solid business foundations or your business is doomed for failure.

And, we all need help and support. You can’t thrive doing business alone. Investing in yourself and your business in smart ways will help propel you along instead of floundering and struggling to make progress.

I’ve learned a lot in my last three years as an entrepreneur but if I had started 5 years ago or even 10 or 15 years ago when I started dreaming of owning my own business, think about how far down the path I would have been by now.

So, if I could go back 5 years ago and tell myself something, I would say start the business now, don’t wait, and set up good solid plans and foundations. Ask for help, and don’t be afraid to invest in yourself and your business.

I've got some super exciting things coming soon. If you are a business owner or thinking of starting a business, get on my mailing list to be the first to know about an incredible offer coming soon.
